"Same Action Twice", and Exploring http://forum.wizkidsgames.com/showthread.php?t=115329 Q: Would you be able to move to island use an explorer to explore (explore using the same move action) and then move away from the island??
Piranha's Response:
A: Remember that there is a distinct separation between abilities. The action that you want to repeat is the MOVE action. It is the primary action in this question. Docking, Exploring, Ramming, Shooting, etc, are secondary and separate actions that may happen as a result of the move action, and in this case, are not affected by the "SAME ACTION TWICE" ability.
So yes you could move to an
island, dock, explore, and then MOVE away from the island with the "SAME
ACTION TWICE" ability, as long as the chosen action was the MOVE.
Broadsides Attack and Immunity to Long Range
Cannons
http://forum.wizkidsgames.com/showthread.php?t=114769
Q: If I ship with
broadsides attack, uses its broadsides attack ability against a ship with
immunity to Long range cannons, do does the number of hits get reduced by the
number of Long range cannons on the ship with broadsides attack?
Piranha's Response
A: Since the ruling on broadsides attack is that NO abilities can modify a broadsides attack, that includes all abilities, including your opponents. Broadsides doesn't state just your abilities, so it applies to all abilities!
Monsieur
Lenoir and when you can cancel Abilities
http://forum.wizkidsgames.com/showthread.php?t=115106
Q: Can I use LeNoir after
the die roll but before the actual use of a double or extra action from
someone like Calico Cat or Crimson Angel? I would assume yes, but the fact
that they generally roll the die from outside the S range makes me wonder if
its too late to prevent it after that point?
For example… He has Crimson Angel face up from his numerous prior uses of her, and rolls for her ability (outside of S range) and gets a 6. He then uses a move action to get in range of my ship, and before he can use his second action (presumably to fire since he didn't have a captain) I revealed LeNoir and prevented the use of the second action. Is this legal?
Piranha's Response
A:
Because the ability was already used (rolled a good D6 for the extra
action), Lenoir can't stop the effect of the ability.
Enterprise and
other Double actions.
http://forum.wizkidsgames.com/showthread.php?t=115462
Q: My rule lawyer friends think:
that can have multi chances to either get the extra turn or store extra turns.
Enterprise: Once per turn, roll a d6. On a 5 or 6, this ship may be given an
extra action.
Piranha's Response
A: Any ability that directly effects actions that you can possibly give to your ships is limited to use on your turn.
Captain Jack
Hawkins and Ships that cannot be pinned.
http://forum.wizkidsgames.com/showthread.php?t=115547
Q: When a ship with Captain Jack Hawkins ram another ship that has the ability "This ship cannot be pinned" what happens? Can Captain Jack Hawkins use his ability to eliminate a crew? (Captain Jack Hawkins' ability reads "This ship may move and shoot using the same move action. On the turn this ship is pinned, eliminate one crew from the enemy ship . This is Captain Jack Hawkins from PotSM, not to be confused with Jack Hawkins from PotCC. ) Piranha's Response A: Since Captain Jack Hawkins ability requires that the ship be pinned to eliminate the crew, his ability does not work. And if you cannot not pin such ship, you cannot expect that the rest of the ability would trigger.
Ships that
steal treasure from an enemies Home Island
.
http://forum.wizkidsgames.com/showthread.php?t=117382 When a ship with the ability; "This ship may dock at an enemy home island and load one treasure. If able, she must leave on your next turn." Usually the owner of that gold gets to choose what gold it loads. Q: So what about treasure that is face up such as Unique Treasure…..? Piranha's Answer: A: If an ability specifically allows you to look at all of the items or you can already see all of the items (none of them being face down), you get to choose which item goes. Otherwise, it is always the owner's choice. So if you dock at an enemy home island and there is a face up unique treasure you can choose to take it. Otherwise your opponent gets to choose what treasure you take. Schooners Masts Overlapping and Broadsides Attack LOF(Line of Fire) http://forum.wizkidsgames.com/showthread.php?t=112524&page=2&pp=15
If you look at the masts on a schooner they slightly overlap, cause them to block their own LOF.
Q:
Schooners & Broadsides:
Piranha's Response
A: Is it simpler?...perhaps. Would it work the way it was intended?....no! The overlap was very intentional!
You are therefore allowed to use a full broadsides attack with a schooner; the small overlap makes no difference.
